My name is Dr. Maima Fant (pronounced like Emma, but with an M). It took me well into my late twenties to confidently correct people on how to say my name. Growing up in the Midwest and living most of my adult life there, it often felt like a burden to expect others to pronounce it correctly. (As if my African parents hadn’t considered how challenging it might be for an awkward little Black girl correcting adults on how to say her name.) With Liberian origins, my name's meaning is "I am content" and I guess my parents knew my life's path long before I could utter the correct pronunciation of my name.

Today, I see this journey differently. As a newly diagnosed neurodivergent person, I’ve been on a profound path of self-discovery and self-acceptance. I’ve shed the mask of “I’ve got it all together” and the endless pressure to check all the boxes of what was expected of me. For so long, I chased the promise of a life that would make my parents proud, only to realize that true fulfillment comes from embracing my authentic self.

The bumps and detours along the way didn’t stop me. I became a doctor—eventually. But it wasn’t just the joys that shaped me; it was the sorrows, too. Those experiences prepared me for the life I’ve built, alongside my best friend and our three amazing children.

As a therapist, I’ve had the privilege of walking alongside women and their families as they navigate life’s twists and turns. In a world filled with uncertainty and where “life be life-in” (as we like to say), we all need a space to lay our burdens down. A space to breathe. A space to simply be.

That’s why I created Hatch Life Wellness—a sanctuary where women, young and old, can find their voice and embrace their fullest, most authentic selves. Here, there’s no need to fit into a box, no need to check off someone else’s list of expectations. Whether you’re navigating the complexities of a hard-to-pronounce name or learning to thrive outside the neurotypical mold, you are worthy, you are needed, and you belong.

If you’re ready to begin your journey toward healing and self-discovery, I’d love to hear from you. Let’s take this step together.

With warmth and understanding,

Dr. Maima Fant
